How Does TR Work?

In TR we take the view that traumatic memories are often “incomplete”
or not fully processed by the brain.

This means they are not properly recorded or filed away in our memory bank. We refer to this as “integration”. As we go about our daily business, our brain is constantly processing and recording information and we store this data in what we know as our memory.

But when something happens that overwhelms us or threatens our existence, that processing is interrupted, and the experience isn’t stored as a complete memory in the normal manner.

It remains in a type of mental limbo land and when least expected can be triggered again, bringing back the unpleasant and unwanted emotions that we felt at the time of the incident.

Sometimes we might not be aware of the actual incident. This is because we have developed a reluctance to confront the experience. We lock it away somewhere in our mental environment where we don’t have to deal with it because it’s too challenging or too painful. We may do this consciously or it may happen without us being aware that we have done it.

This repression or suppression of the memory. The problem with that is, that because we haven’t fully processed the memory, we haven’t integrated it. In other words, it hasn’t been dealt with and it isn’t filed away properly.

It can re-enter our consciousness at any time with all its unpleasant consequences and so we live in fear of it. It has power over us.

TR provides a safe and effective means by which you can revisit these past traumas and in a controlled and structured way, enables you to re-examine them, process them and integrate them into your memory. In this manner the “emotional charge” that they once possessed is removed. The memory is then stored in the normal manner and the incident or series of incidents which led to these symptoms can be considered without the unpleasant reactions being triggered. What remains is just a memory like any other, but because it has now been integrated it has lost its power over you.

It’s true, this can be a challenging thing to do. After all, you are being asked to look closely at the things that have been, up until now, too painful to consider but it is your willingness to do this that hold the keys to unlocking the psychological cage that imprisons you.

By providing the right environment and careful guidance and support, the TIR practitioner will facilitate the integration process for you, and you should then experience a feeling of relief and freedom that you have been searching for.

Trauma Resolution Practitioner

I’m Don and I’m a certified Trauma Resolution practitioner. I use ground breaking techniques to alleviate or even fully resolve symptoms caused by psychological trauma.

As a former police officer I worked with many victims of crimes who had been traumatised by their experiences and later I spent 9 years working with families who had been bereaved by murder and manslaughter.

Consequently, I’m no stranger to the debilitating impact of trauma.
